About

Good design begins with site environmental analysis and study of microclimates, solar exposures, topography, prevailing breezes, watersheds, natural  landscapes, views, as well as man made elements and infrastructure. This information is integrated with the relationships of interior and exterior spaces requested by each client during a program analysis and project description.

The approach reflects the Client’s visions and goals, which are enhanced through a collaborative process of research, programming, and design. This  includes energy efficiency, effective use of technology, sustainable, healthy and durable products, accurate documentation, and knowledge of construction processes. Most projects achieve  “Healthy-Built” ratings, including materials specifications and performance. Design work  ranges from interpretive traditional design, Blue Ridge vernacular, to mountain modern architecture. The practice intentionally avoids cliches, canned designs, and trends, with the hope of producing successful and timeless projects. In a period of time where the rush to instant gratification, imitation, and prepackaged solutions are the norm, meaningful projects should be approached with enthusiasm but not haste,  in the pursuit of honest, and unpretentious Architecture.
